King Djoser

c.2667-2648BC (3rd Dynasty)

The Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara - the first stone building in the world

He was a well known king of the third dynasty. He was an active king in the Sinai area and extending his rule down as far as the 1st Cataract of the Nile near Aswan (later this would be the official southern border of Egypt). He also continued to work the copper mines from which several supplies of the indispensable metal was provided.Other names of king Djoser was Netjerykhetranub, Sensen and Senwy .He was the most outstanding pharaoh in the Old Kingdom and perhaps in the entire Egyptian history

With him started a whole new era in human history when his vizer and chief architect among other things - Imhotep, erected the first monumental building in hewn stone, the still standing Step pyramid at Sakkara.

Standing 62m high and having a base of 109m x 125m, the Step Pyramid is the central feature of a vast mortuary complex in an enormous courtyard surrounded by dummy buildings.

Lots of genial inventions came to light during his reign, many of them with no need to ever be improved. Imhotep was later considered the god of medicine, and was venerated for over 2.000 years.
